Champions League: Liverpool Facing Bayern At The Wrong Time

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamman believes that Premier League giants Liverpool are facing German champions Bayern Munich at the wrong time ahead of their Champions League second leg last 16 clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

Dietmar Hamman played for both Liverpool and Bayern Munich during an illustrious playing career.

The ex-German international star won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005.

Dietmar Hamman was part of the Liverpool side that came from three goals down to beat Italian Serie A giants AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul after both teams played out a 3-3 draw.

He told the Liverpool Echo that Liverpool are facing Bayern Munich at the wrong time after the Bavarian giants secured the top spot on the German Bundesliga table with the 6-0 thrashing of VFL Wolfsburg in their league meeting at the weekend.

Bayern Munich are slight favourites ahead of the second leg after they battled to a goalless draw with the Reds at Anfield in their first leg meeting.

Liverpool prepared for the tough trip to Germany by beating Burnley 4-2 to keep their title hopes alive in the Premier League.

The Reds came from a goal down to beat the Clarets with two goals apiece from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
