Star Defender Facing Chelsea Exit Over Contract Standoff

Chelsea defender David Luiz could leave the club at the end of the season following his contract standoff with the West Londoners.

David Luiz has just six months left on his present contract with the Blues but both parties have failed to agree on a new contract.

The Brazilian international centre back wants the club to offer him at least a two-year contract but Chelsea are adamant that they will only offer him a one-year contract extension in fulfilment of their over-30 years policy.

Chelsea don’t offer players over the age of 30 more than a one-year contract.

The current situation means that David Luiz could leave the club for the second time.

He had earlier left Stamford Bridge in a then world record fee for a defender in 2014.

French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) paid a whopping sum of £50m to secure the transfer of the 31-year-old from Chelsea.

T he Brazilian player was brought back to Chelsea two years later by the Antonio Conte-led managerial team and he went to form a crucial part of the Blues squad that won the 2016/17 Premier League title before he was frozen out of the team for the majority of last season.
