Deal Unlikely: Liverpool Might Miss Out On De Ligt

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes that his former club might miss out on the signing of Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt.

According to him, it would be difficult for Liverpool to splash a big transfer fee on the highly rated centre back following the emergence of Joe Gomez as a quality player for Liverpool and as a formidable partner for Virgil Van Dijk in the Reds’ central defence.

Steve Nicol spoke about Liverpool and Matthijs De Ligt while he was doing his punditry job on popular media channel ESPN.

He was quick to point out that De Ligt would be a quality addition to the Liverpool squad irrespective of the players on the Reds’ payroll at the moment.

Liverpool are not the only club interested in Matthijs De Ligt.

Others like Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona have all been linked with the Dutch international player.

De Ligt has been one of the standout players for Ajax Amsterdam who are having a great season despite their exit from the Champions League in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night.

Ajax Amsterdam have already won the Dutch Cup via a 4-0 win over Willem II at the weekend and they are within two games of winning the Dutch Eredivisie title.
