Nigeria Premier League side, Rivers United could be disbanded if the claims by the River State Commissioner for Sport, Boma Iyaye is anything to go by.
The state-owned club have continued to struggle, losing their second consecutive match in the ongoing 2018 Aiteo Cup and the government official has sued for their disbandment.
Iyaye decried their poor performances this season in addition to questioning the ability and impact of the coach of the team.
He said the team lacks compact strength, coaching and technical input as he promises to recommend disband of the entire team for a fresh start.
Iyaye that the team has never failed to make the State proud despite the huge financial investment, noting that the Rivers State government has been the biggest investors in sports across the country but has been paid back with disappointments.
Meanwhile, the head coach of the Rivers based team risked being sacked with reports that there will be a review of the entire coaching and playing staff by the government to ascertain whether to continue with them or not.
The Aiteo Cup was the only hope available to the side for silverware after the Nigeria Football League, NPFL was called off with Lobi Stars named as winners of the current season.
