The former Real Madrid striker was unimpressive when the side lost to Manchester City in the Community Shield last week, and it might be a wise decision to bench him during the opening premier league game of the season.
The Spaniard moved to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid during last year’s summer transfer window following some strings of impressive performances at the Spanish capital.
However, he lost his form towards the end of the term at Chelsea and couldn’t get a spot in his country’s World Cup party that travelled to Russia for the tournament.
Considering the way he fared at Wembley last weekend against Manchester City, we can say he doesn’t appear like a player that has improved over the summer.
Alvaro was unable to make a reasonable impact in the game as he continues to look weak.
And so, it won’t be a bad idea to give Tammy Abraham a chance to impress against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Tammy came on for the closing 20 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s side and he looked threatening.
With the right supports, the Englishman could fill the void left by Diego Costa.
