North London side Arsenal are reported to have entered the race to have the signature of Portuguese central defender Pepe ahead of the winter transfer window.

Pepe who is currently one of the best in the Turkish topflight has been tipped to win a trophy for the Gunners with his solid defending, having proved to be one of the best in the world especially with his feet at the Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid.

With Arsenal struggling with a perfect performance at the defence, Pepe could be the deal as he is sure to create the balance and give the quality especially with the absence of Rob Holding in the team.

Pepe is believed to be available for the right offer and would not be stopped by his Turkish side as they are looking forward to cashing in on him so as to execute other deals as well as well as reduce the burden from his weekly wage.

The 35-year-old has won all he needed to win including the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish La Liga.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are also believed to be in search of an attacker with England international Danny Welbeck already out to injury and unlikely to return as a club player.
