Lucas Torreira

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has advocated for a starting role for new recruit Lucas Torreira after his eye-catching performance in Arsenal’s win at Newcastle.

The Gunners defeated the Magpies 2-1 on Saturday at the St James Park with Torreira coming on as a second-half substitute.

The £26m only had a second-half opportunity but was able to make meaningful impacts in the game by securing the Arsenal defence and helping to build a meaningful attack.

The Uruguayan who shone at the World Cup in Russia has since settled at the Emirates Stadium after his move from Sampdoria.

Despite his efforts and performance from the first league game against Manchester City, he is yet to be given a starting role by Unai Emery with the numerous calls.

Ian Wright thinks its time to speak up on behalf of the player and has asked the former PSG manager to consider the player.

He expressed delight at Torreira’s ability to get the ball and players forward for an attack which he has been helpful in destabilizing the opponent.

He maintained that for the reason, the player who has been favoured behind Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka, deserves a starting role.

Pundits expect he be handed his starting role when the Gunners play their Europa game on Thursday.
