Champions League: Liverpool To Face Portuguese Opponents In Quarters

Five-time European champions Liverpool have been handed a quarterfinal tie with Portuguese champions, FC Porto, after the draw was held at the UEFA headquarters earlier on Friday.

The draw took place in Nyon, Switzerland and it pitted the Reds with FC Porto.

Liverpool qualified for this stage after they saw off German champions Bayern Munich via a 3-1 aggregate win.

After a goalless first leg at Anfield last month, Senegalese international Sadio Mane was the star of the show after he scored two goals either side of the halftime interval to give Liverpool a 3-1 win away from home against the Bavarian giants in their second leg meeting on Wednesday night.

Mane scored the opening goal in the 26th minute before Liverpool defender Joel Matip put through his own goal 13 minutes later to hand Bayern a lifeline.

Virgil Van Dijk and the aforementioned Mane then scored in the second half to give the Reds a well deserved victory.

Liverpool would be hoping to go one better this term after they reached the final of the competition last season before they were beaten by Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Spaniards won 3-1 with a brace from Gareth Bale.

Liverpool will host FC Porto at Anfield on April 9 in their first leg clash before the second leg in Portugal on April 17.
