Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has identified two areas of improvement for his beloved club during this summer’s transfer window.

According to him, Liverpool have to strengthen the two areas in question to continue putting pressure on Manchester City for major honors on the domestic scene.

The Liverpool legend told the Daily Mirror that the Reds need a new left-back and a creative midfielder ahead of the new season which starts in two months’ time.

Liverpool need a new left-back following the release of Alberto Moreno this summer after the expiration of his contract.

The Spanish international player had spent five years as a Liverpool player before his release.

He joined the Reds from Spanish La Liga club Sevilla in 2014 shortly after helping his boyhood club win the first of their three successive Europa League titles between 2014 and 2016 under the guidance of Spanish tactician Unai Emery who’s now the Arsenal manager.

Liverpool also need a creative midfielder according to Mark Lawrenson as they hope to maintain their place at the top of European football while trying to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title next season.

The Reds finished just one point off Manchester City during the just concluded league season before winning the Champions League title at the start of this month.
