West London giants Chelsea have received a big transfer blow in the wake of the news that one of their defensive targets has penned a new deal at Italian champions Juventus.

Daniel Rugani was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea last summer when Italian manager Maurizio Sarri left Napoli to take charge of the first team at Stamford Bridge.

The Juventus centre back was frustrated with the lack of game time with the Old Lady last summer and was keen to leave the club but the Italian champions were able to hang on to his services amidst the strong interest from Chelsea.

Rugani has signed a new four-year deal at Juventus until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 24-year-old had two years left on his previous Juventus contract before the latest two year-extension.

Daniele Rugani has played 14 times for Juventus this season as he has formed a potent defensive partnership with the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

He has scored two goals for the Old Lady this term including a crucial goal in the 3-3 draw with Parma last month.

The Italian international is the youngest Juventus player to play 60 games for the club and he has won 60 of his 81 matches for the Old Lady since joining them from Empoli in 2013.
