Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has hinted that he’s close to signing a new deal with the Magpies.

The former Liverpool manager made this known during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool game on Saturday evening.

Benitez and his Newcastle United team welcome Premier League title chasers Liverpool to St. James’ Park on what’s a big game for the visitors as the race for the league title hots up.

Spanish tactician Rafael Benitez has spent over three years as the Newcastle United manager and his contract is expected to run out this summer.

According to him, he has been talking with Newcastle United director Lee Chanley over a new deal.

Rafael Benitez is reluctant to sign a new deal at the club unless he’s promised adequate funding to sign new players when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The former Real Madrid and Valencia boss has been able to keep the Magpies in the top flight of English football for two straight seasons including a tenth-placed finish in the last campaign.

Benitez will face the Reds in an all-important league game without the mindset of doing them any favours in their quest to end a long wait for a league title as confirmed by the Spaniard during the aforementioned press conference.
