West Ham United missed out on a big opportunity to strengthen their attack on the last day of the winter transfer window after they failed to secure the transfer of Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi and other attacking options.

West Ham agreed on a loan deal with the Blues for Michy Batshuayi on deadline day but failed to get the transfer over the line as London rivals Crystal Palace capitalized on the situation to seal a loan transfer for the Belgian international player.

The 25-year-old has joined the Eagles on a short-term loan for the rest of this campaign.

According to the publication from popular media portal Bleacher Report, the Hammers pulled out of the deal after they were told that Michy Batshuayi is on weekly wages of £80,000.

West Ham United were also priced out of a move for La Liga star Maxi Gomez.

Spanish attacker Gomez plays his club football for Spain’s top flight side, Celta Vigo.

The Hammers were ready to pay the £45m release clause in his current contract at Celta Vigo only to balk at his wage demands.

Maxi Gomez asked for £80,000 on a weekly basis from the Hammers.

West Ham United will have to continue with Marko Arnautovic in the top striker’s role at the club.
