Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is not certain of what the future holds for him at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in the 2014-15 season and his contract with the team is expected to end by the end of the season.

It is said that he could be heading back to his country this month because United aren’t showing any sign of renewing his contract.

When asked about his future in Thursday, the 30-year-old midfielder told Spain’s media outlet AS that he is not thinking about his short-term future at the moment.

According to him, the prime target for him and his teammates is to win as many games as possible so as to qualify for Champions League competition next season.

However, he revealed to reporters that he didn’t know if he would be returning back to Spain ahead of next season.

“I don’t know. I’ve been in England a while, in a league where I’m happy and where I’ve adapted well, but it’s true that you sometimes miss home, your family, your friends… but I don’t know if I will return to Spain in the near future.” he said

The 30-year-old was an integral part of the team under José Mourinho all through the first half of this season. He featured in 16 games before the Portuguese manager was shown the exit door.

Though Mata isn’t rated by interim manager Solskjaer, he has played four games under the Norwegian tactician. This means Mata has featured in 21 matches in all competitions.

He has found the back of the net in just five times and has assisted two so far this season.
