Liverpool Dealt Major Injury Blow In Bayern Win

The Champions League win over Bayern Munich came at a cost for Premier League giants Liverpool following the injury to skipper Jordan Henderson.

The Liverpool captain suffered a serious ankle injury during the game with the Bavarian giants at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

England international Henderson was substituted as early as the 13th minute after sustaining the ankle problem.

He was replaced by Fabinho who was surprisingly left out of the starting XI.

Jurgen Klopp made just two changes from the side that saw off Burnley in their Premier League clash at the weekend.

In his post-match thoughts after his side’s 3-1 win over their hosts, Klopp confirmed that his captain sustained a serious ankle injury.

The English midfielder is almost certainly ruled out of the upcoming Premier League clash with struggling London outfit Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

Without Henderson, Liverpool were able to secure a quarterfinal spot in the Champions League by beating Bayern Munich 3-1 in the second leg of their last 16 tie.

The Bavarian giants were the favourites going into the game after both teams played goalless in the first leg at Anfield.

Liverpool were slight underdogs but they showed why only Real Madrid stopped them from winning the competition last season via a 3-1 loss in their final clash in May 2018.

Sadio Mane found the back of the net twice to lead the Reds to a 3-1 win.

Virgil Van Dijk scored the other goal for Liverpool while Bayern got their consolation through an own goal from Joel Matip.
