Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that the club will insert a release clause into the contract of forward Nabil Fekir.

Aulas spoke about French World Cup winner Nabil Fekir in a chat with RMC Sport as he said that Lyon will insert a release clause into his contract when the player signs a contract extension.

Nabil Fekir, 25, has less than 18 months left on his current Lyon deal which expires at the end of next season.

The player has been a long-term target of Premier League table toppers Liverpool dating back to last summer when he came close to joining the Reds before the transfer fell through.

Liverpool had long-term concerns over his knee thus leading them to want to renegotiate with Lyon after they had agreed on a £53m deal for him.

Fekir recovered well from that transfer setback to play his part for the French national team as they won a second World Cup title at the 2018 edition in Russia.

He has been in good form for Lyon this season after netting 10 goals in all competitions for the French Ligue 1 giants.

His 10th goal came from the penalty spot as he scored the winning goal to hand league leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) their first loss of the season in the French Ligue 1 via a 2-1 win.
