Mateo Kovacic

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has rejected the idea of playing at Old Trafford next season due to Mourinho’s style of play, reports say.

The Croatian star, who represented his country as they marched to the finals of the World Cup held in Russia last month, is believed to be considering his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is outspoken about bolstering his squad ahead of the new season and have identified Kovacic, as one of the names to help his team fight for Premier League glory.

Reports in Spanish outlet, Marca claim that United sent an intermediary to speak with Kovacic over a £53 million move to the Old Trafford but the midfielder rejected the chance to play under Jose Mourinho due to the Portuguese’s style of play.

Despite his rejection of Manchester United’s offer, the midfielder is understood to be looking at the chances of playing elsewhere, having made just 37 appearances for Real since joining them from Inter Milan two years.

Real Madrid new boss Julie Lopetegui will look to convince the player to remain at Bernabeu for another season, with reports that fellow Croat Luka Modric is also considering his future at Real and could leave to join Inter Milan before the end of August.
