Premier League: Liverpool Seal Summit After Struggling Win Over Fulham

Liverpool have gone to the summit of the Premier League table following their 2-1 win over struggling Premier League side Fulham.

The Reds were not convincing against the Cottagers but they were able to secure the victory needed to take them above title rivals and defending champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool were impressive in their Champions League last 16 tie over German champions Bayern Munich last week but they were unable to match that performance against the Cottagers.

The home side made it easy for Liverpool especially in the first half with the Reds scoring just one goal through the in-form Sadio Mane.

His 26th-minute strike ensured that the Senegalese international player has now scored five goals in his last three games for the Reds in all competitions.

Fulham were much improved after a below-par first half performance and they were rewarded for their efforts when former Reds player Ryan Babel capitalised on the mix-up between Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker to scored a 74th-minute equaliser for the hosts.

They were only levelled for seven minutes after substitute James Milner atoned for his error before the Fulham equaliser by slamming home the winning goal from the spot after Sergio Rico fouled Mane in the box.

The 2-1 win was enough to take Liverpool two points clear of Manchester City in the race for Premier League table.

Manchester City have played a game more.
