Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have made a breakthrough in their quest to sign Lyon defender Ferland Mendy this summer.

The Los Merengues have targeted the signing of the French international left-back in recent weeks and popular media portal Goal has revealed that they have agreed on a €50m deal for him.

He will be the fifth summer signing for Real Madrid who are keen to improve their squad a great deal after the disappointments of the just concluded campaign.

Real Madrid missed out on major trophies like the Spanish La Liga title, Spanish Copa Del Rey and the Champions League title.

The Spaniards have already signed Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard.

The transfer for Eden Hazard from Chelsea was confirmed on Friday night in a deal reported to be for an initial fee of €100m thus taking the summer spendings at Real Madrid over the €250m mark.

Ferland Mendy is the next player to be unveiled at Real Madrid.

He has previously been linked with West London giants Chelsea in recent transfer windows but his next club will be Real Madrid who are in need of a left-back competition for Brazilian international Marcelo.

His transfer is expected to push second choice left-back Reguilon out of the club either on loan or on a permanent deal.
