Liverpool player set for new contract amidst transfer rumours

Liverpool and England fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold is all but set to renew his contract with the Reds. The youngster is enjoying life at Anfield and he has no reason to dump the Merseyside club this month or in the nearest future.

The 20-year-old was promoted to the club’s first-team squad in 2017 and has since been a mainstay in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

BBC Sports revealed the right-back is in talks with the club’s hierarchy over a new contract. The British publication said that deal hasn’t been finalized yet, however, they are at the latter stages of discussion and a five-year contract could be signed any time soon.

This will come as good news to all Merseyside faithfuls because the England international has been phenomenal in the club’s charge for their first Premier League trophy in more than two decades.

Alexander-Arnold is currently on the sideline due to the knee injury he picked up prior to last week’s 1-0 victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium and he is expected to miss out of action for one month.

The injury automatically ruled him out of today’s fixture against Crystal Palace. He will equally miss the game against Leicester City next week.

The defender may be fit before Champions League clash with Bayern Munich next month but it’s very much early to predict as he wasn’t diagnosed to know the exact intensity of his injury.

It should be recalled that left-back Andrew Robertson signed a new five-year contract last week and that will keep him at Anfield stadium until 2024.
