27-Year-Old Liverpool Defender Demands New Contract Amidst Transfer Links

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has told senior club officials that he wants to sign a new deal to further solidify his commitment to the newly crowned European champions.

This is according to the publication from the stables of popular media channel ESPN which revealed that the Dutch international centre back has four years left on the five-and-a-half year contract that he signed upon joining the Reds in January 2018.

Virgil Van Dijk, 27, has been in superb form since joining Liverpool at the start of last year and he has been linked with the Spanish La Liga duo of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

He’s the most expensive defender on the world football stage after Liverpool paid £75m to secure his signing from fellow Premier League club Southampton.

Van Dijk was ever present as Liverpool finished just one point behind Premier League champions Manchester City in the race for the league title.

Manchester City retained their league title with 98 points ahead of Liverpool who had 97 points.

Dutch international player Van Dijk also played a big role for Liverpool in their run to win the Champions League trophy.

Liverpool became the newly crowned European champions after a 2-0 win over North London giants Tottenham Hotspur in their final clash.
