Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will not leave the club during the January transfer window despite being linked with a move away from Anfield.

The 30-year-old Belgian international shot-stopper will stay on as the Reds’ second choice goalkeeper at least until the end of the current campaign according to the Liverpool Echo.

Mignolet has strongly been linked with a transfer to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice ahead of the New Year but the latest development means that the move won’t see the light of the day.

He was recently part of the Belgium squad that impressed at this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

The Belgian team finished in the third spot under the guidance of Roberto Martinez.

Mignolet played second fiddle to first-choice goal netminder Thibaut Courtois during the tournament as the former Chelsea man went on to win the Golden Glove Award at the end of the tournament.

Simon Mignolet has had a disappointing 2018 at Liverpool.

The former Sunderland star lost his place in the Liverpool starting XI to Loris Karius before the club failed to sanction his transfer away from the club during the summer.

He has been able to make just one appearance for Liverpool this season in all competitions.
